As an avid, passionate enthusiast of Indian motorcycle for the last 10 years, inspired by the History of the all-American motorcycle brand has crafted, a moment has arrived we can all celebrate the achievements conceived by The Hendee Manufacturing Company in 1901. Since the relaunch of Indian Motorcycle in 2014, the Thunderstroke air-cooled engine gave the thoroughbred, artistic aficionados a true taste of Americana.
In 2014 the Indian Motorcycle launched a Chief Vintage that would have the motorcycle industry all revved up, respecting the fusion of heritage and modern engineering from a motorcycle with a powerful assault on the senses.
Authentic and powerful, although in my opinion a little too big for the UK and Europe.
The Chief was re invented in 2019 offering a more accessible vehicle for UK and Europe. Although the trend at that moment in time seemed very muted and conservative regarding style, Bobbed and matt finish minimal detailed interpretation of American motorcycles. My perspective was that The Chief lost a little of its heritage in the design. Only The Indian Chief Bobber Jack Daniels Limited edition showing the creative talents of Indian Motorcycle design team.
2026 Indian Motorcycle has returned to its roots. The Indian Chief Vintage launched with a level of awe we all expected in line with the 125th anniversary of Indian Motorcycle.
Inspired by the 1940s Chief, its flowing valanced fenders and unmistakable silhouette pay tribute to Indian Motorcycle’s roots, while the Thunderstroke 116 motor delivers the power and presence that set today’s standard. Chief Vintage reflects Indian Motorcycle’s Never Finished spirit, defined by fearlessness, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to provide riders the choice they’ve always deserved in American motorcycling.
Ola Stenegärd, Design Director for Indian Motorcycle has created the historic interpretation Indian Motorcycle deserves. With sculpted lines that pay homage to post-war classics, Chief Vintage looks as though it rolled straight off the original Springfield, Massachusetts, production line in the 1940s. Its unmistakable Indian Motorcycle valanced front fender is complemented by the iconic lit headdress ornament. Fused with modern technology wrapped around the Indian Motorcycle Ride command.
As a purist, of Indian Motorcycle, this bike is the epitome of Indian Motorcycle heritage design and technology. Smooth delivery of power and performance, extremely well balanced even for someone slight of frame. An homage to the days of the past wrapped up in the bike of the future.
The ride has been tweaked to allow a much more comfortable balanced rider position. Buck Horn bars, the new designed solo seat, allowed my trip of around 200 miles was achieved without a constant switch from side to side to shuffle seating position. Floorboards exaggerate the comfort with the ability to shuffle feet and find the best position. Up front, the illuminated headdress shines from the valanced fender - a hallmark of Indian Motorcycle since 1947 and a detail that still turns heads at every stoplight.
As for engine and power, The Thunder stroke 116 again slightly perfected for 2026 to offer a smoother delivery of power at low revs, but it must be acknowledged the Torque of this engine is mesmerising. Blacked out finish with a re imagined matt silver feature on the flat head inspired rocker covers. In addition to all the ride modes, cruise control and tech on the ride command this vehicle is the epitome of luxury and timeless style with performance to rival anything in its class. Accessories available will only enhance the style and appearance of the Indian Chief Vintage for 2026.
